Etchly vs Seedance

A Seedance alternative that doesn't bill by the second.

Seedance 2.0 is an impressive generative video model. It's also priced per second of footage, and most videos need several takes. If you're making explainers, stories or social content, you can get a cinematic result for a fraction of the cost.

The short version

Cost of one finished 60-second video

Seedance 2.0 at 1080pOne 60-second pass. Footage only, no script or voice $25–41
…with typical rerollsIf half the shots need a second take $38–62
Etchly StudioFinished video: script, voice, art, music, captions $4–6

Seedance figures use typical third-party API rates of $0.42–$0.68 per generated second at 1080p with audio (October 2026). Generative clips run roughly 5–15 seconds, so a 60-second video is several generations stitched together. Prices change, so check the provider. The Etchly range is a 25-credit, 60-second video with 16 new illustrations on the Studio to Starter plans.

Seedance pricing is from typical third-party API rates (October 2026). Official and reseller prices vary by provider, resolution, audio and tier, and they change often.

Why per-second pricing adds up

A generated clip is short, so a one-minute video is four to twelve separate generations. Each one can come back with a warped hand, a drifting face or the wrong product, and every retry is billed in full. Then you still need a script, a voiceover, captions, music and an editor to stitch it together.

None of that is a criticism of the model. It's simply the cost of asking AI to invent every pixel of every frame. Most explainer and social videos don't need that, and paying for it means you make fewer videos.

How Etchly gets a similar result for less

Etchly asks AI to do what it's cheap and reliable at: writing, narrating and painting stills. Our motion engine does the rest. It cuts illustrations into layers for parallax, adds directed camera moves, draws line art on stroke by stroke, animates talking characters and times every title to the narration.

Because motion is rendered, not generated, a 60-second video needs about 16 illustrations instead of 60 seconds of footage. Edits re-render in seconds, and anything unchanged is reused for free.

When Seedance is the right call

If your video lives or dies on photoreal motion, like a person walking through a real street, liquid pouring or a product spinning with real reflections, use a generative model. You can still make the rest of the video in Etchly and drop in one or two generated hero shots where they matter. Our guide on when you don't need generative video walks through the decision.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is Etchly a Seedance alternative?

For explainers, stories, listicles, countdowns, product walk-throughs and social ads, yes. Etchly produces a finished, narrated, animated video for a fraction of the cost. For photoreal live-action motion, Seedance and other generative models are still the better tool.

How much does a 60-second Seedance 2.0 video cost?

At typical third-party API rates of $0.42–$0.68 per second at 1080p with audio (October 2026), 60 seconds of footage costs about $25–$41 per attempt, before rerolls, script, voiceover and editing. Prices change, so check the provider.

How much does a 60-second Etchly video cost?

About 25 credits from idea to MP4, roughly $4–6 depending on your plan. That includes the script, voiceover, illustrations, music, captions and render.

Can I combine both?

Yes. A common hybrid is to generate one or two hero shots with a generative model where real motion matters, and make the rest of the video in Etchly. You'd join them in your editor.
